First off, my heart goes out to the families of those lost and injured today at Nothern Illinois U.
As everyone’s heard by now, there was yet another campus shooting today with 5 casualities. I wonder if this is going to end. Or has this somehow become a part of our culture? albeit in a sick, twisted way. I hope not. School campuses, government offices, malls…all places where one would ordinarily feel safe. Once the words ‘Breaking News: Shooting at xyz’ in bold red letters breaks the broadcast, public places around the country raise security. Checkpoints are built in high schools, more security added to malls, etc. But how far can these changes really go without giving us a sense of fear. Soon enough a day at the park would be anything but. If we’re not worried about terrorists from abroad, we’re worried about those that live next door, or downstairs. Perhaps our prevention measures are not deep enough? It takes a certain something to go on a shooting spree<here’s me stating the very obvious>, there’s a lot more beneath the surface. Maybe there oughta be more attention paid to mental health. I don’t know.
All I can say is Love hard and don’t exist in fear, cos that’s not living.
